Manx Wildlife Week is an annual event held on the Isle of Man to showcase the work of organizations and volunteers who monitor and protect the island’s flora and fauna.
Manx Wildlife Week is an event organized by Manx National Heritage (MNH) in partnership with Manx Wildlife Trust (MWT) and Unesco Biosphere Isle of Man. The event offers a variety of activities, such as guided walks and watching birds, whales, and dolphins.
The focus is on highlighting the importance of capturing data for the National Biodiversity Network Atlas, which contains over a million Manx wildlife records available online.
The event is designed to spread awareness about the island’s flora and fauna and provide a platform for smaller groups to share their work with a wider audience. It is also open to people of all levels of interest in natural history.
The event runs for a week and features “lovely little vignettes” showcasing the work done to monitor and protect wild spaces and living creatures within it.
Organisers of the Manx Wildlife Week have said that they will showcase local wildlife and its documentation through a series of “lovely little vignettes” that highlight things that people don’t normally get to see.
People can speak to conservationists and experts during Manx Wildlife Week, which aims to protect the wild spaces of the Isle of Man.
Laura McCoy from Manx National Heritage (MNH) emphasized the significance of the guided walks and bird, whale and dolphin watching events to showcase the “wonderful” conservation work accomplished.
MNH has organized the events, in collaboration with MWT and Unesco Biosphere Isle of Man, to showcase the ongoing documentation of the island’s wildlife for the National Biodiversity Network Atlas, which has over a million records of Manx wildlife and can be accessed online. The events will take place from 29 April to 7 May.
According to Laura McCoy, the curator of natural history at MNH, the Manx Wildlife Week is important to raise awareness about the island’s flora and fauna, as a website may not always be very engaging. The week will also feature activities at the Manx Museum in Douglas.
Ms McCoy explained that the Manx Wildlife Week events will provide a platform for smaller groups to showcase their work to a wider audience. The events will feature “lovely little vignettes” highlighting the work done by those who monitor and protect the island’s wild spaces and living creatures.
Participation in the Manx Wildlife Week is open to people with varying levels of interest in natural history, according to Ms McCoy.
The Manx Wildlife Week aims to showcase the efforts of the Manx Biological Recording Partnership, comprising the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture, MWT, MNH, specialist wildlife groups, and volunteers.
